Signs of Serious Dog Health Problems

If you are a dog owner, then I think you will agree that your dog holds a particular place in your heart. It takes attention, grooming and daily care throughout their life to keep the majority of health problems at bay. But, if you take suitable measures it will save your pet from diseases, various concerns and troubles.

The best idea I tried was to get my dog dewormed and inoculated according to the advice of my veterinarian. Try to contact your veterinarian in case you find any sort of abnormalities and irregularities in your dog. The earlier you detect illness there will be more hope of getting it cured.

My suggestions are to look for a few things given below, to check to see if your your dog is having some health problems and they are as follows:

  • The dog starts drinking water in excess or the dog grows depressed and listless, showing a lack of stamina.
  • The dog loses interest in food or stops eating or suffers from too much diarrhea and vomiting.
  • The dog shows movements that are stiff or has foul breath.
  • The dog always keeps scratching its body or shakes his head.
  • The dog starts developing a few obvious lumps on his body or loses his hair and has some open sores on his body.
  • Suddenly the dog shows aggressive tendencies or has prominent yellow tartar deposits on teeth.
  • The dog has some difficulty in breathing or has excess discharge from nose or eyes.

If you find out that your dog displays any of the signs given above, then in that case you should contact your veterinarian.

One major problem that I have faced as a dog owner is battling external and internal parasites that plague the dog. Few external parasites are Mites, Fleas, Ticks and Lice. If you find your dog is continuously scratching himself especially around the chest area and ears, then certainly its infested.

Internal parasites such as Heartworms, Tapeworms, Hookworms, Roundworms and Whipworms damage the health of your dog as well causing internal bleeding, anemia and death and should be immediately dealt with.

If you take few precautions and care, you can save your dog from diseases and illnesses and have a healthy and well pet. The next article in our series on dog health problems will address the harmful side effects of NSAIDs in dogs.
