Tips When Traveling With Your Dog

Have you ever considered traveling with your dog?

I had a great experience when I traveled with my pet but there are certain points to keep in mind that can make the trip easy, manageable and enjoyable for both you and your best friend.

Consider these points when traveling with your dog to make it a fun and enjoyable experience:

If your car is large enough and if your pet is crate trained, the pet can travel in a crate. The crate will give protection if an accident occurs and will also prevent your best friend from wandering around the car. As soon as you arrive at your destination, the pet will feel happy and safe.

You can also use a canine seat harness when traveling with your dog. It buckles up to your car’s seatbelt. This canine seatbelt gives better protection to your pet while traveling. You can select the seat that you want to fasten the dog to.

If you want to leave the dog loose in the car, it is suggested that you get a divider installed in your car made of either metal or mesh. This will stop the dog from bothering you while you are driving.

Another important thing when traveling with your dog is to not let the dog hang out of the window because dust, flying debris and pollen might strike the soft tissue of their ear, which can cause injury, infection and trauma to your dog.

Next thing I recommend is to take canine supplies with you. Take plenty of water and a bowl suited for canine car travel. Do not forget to take a sufficient supply of food. You should also carry the dog’s favorite toys to keep the dog engaged, while your pet is on the road.

If you are traveling with your dog for a long distance be sure to take potty breaks. Try to remember that sometimes while traveling the stress will increase the frequency of motion and the dog may need to go to the bathroom more often that usual.

Last but not least, my most valuable advice is to check with your veterinarian before traveling with your favorite best friend!
