Unusual Top Family Dog Breeds

If you are a family man or woman looking for an unusual dog,  here are the top family dog breeds you should look for:

Azawakh

In addition to hunting and guarding, the Azawakh hound makes a protective and loyal pet. It forms a very strong bond with its owner, but it’s independent spirit makes it too proud to look to its owner for permission or instructions. They are attentive to their surroundings, yet at the same time they have an air of disinterest. They’re affectionate with the ones they love, but fierce with intruders or when provoked. The animal is rugged by sheer nature of ancestry, yet it walks around proud and is considered to be a very refine animal.

American Hairless Terrier

These animals are small (4-16 pounds and 10-18 inches) but muscular. They are energetic, attentive and intelligent making them easy to train and top family dog breeds. They’re also extremely friendly to children, other dogs, and even cats.

Otterhounds

Otterhounds make a great companion dog as they are loving, friendly, cheerful and devoted to their owner. They are also good with children, very patient, however they are known to be a bit of a clumsy beast and are therefore not recommended for infants or toddlers just learning to walk.

Chinese Foo Dogs

Once thought to be extinct, the Chinese Foo Dog ranges in size from toy to standard. They range in height from less than 10 inches to over 15 inches, and their weight can be anywhere from under 20 lbs to more than 50 lbs. Some believe they’re a cross breed of a Mongolian Chow Chow and European hunting dogs, while others think they may be the missing link between a Chow Chow and a Chinese Wolf. Used as a sort of mascot, it’s believed that this dog brings good luck. This friendly animal makes a loyal pet and top family dog breeds.

Chinese Chongqing

They are alert and intelligent dogs, good with respectful children while being cautious of strangers. Paying attention to detail, the animal can figure out if a stranger is welcome or not based on the actions and temperament of their owner, making them still a great watch dog and guard dog.

Cane Corso Mastiff

It is over two feet tall and weighs over 100 pounds on average. This hypoallergenic dog is thought to be related to the Neapolitan Mastiff, only instead of great strength like the Neapolitan, Can Corso relies on its speed and agility. While this breed may be aggressive against people it doesn’t know, it’s generally good tempered and children friendly, and often suffers separation anxiety.
